Week of April 9, 2012

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter! Thanks to all of the parents that were able to come to the meeting last Tuesday. There are many activities coming up and we rely heavily on parent support to make it all happen. It was nice to see such a great turnout! Please remember, there is a Volunteer Appreciation Party this Tuesday 4/10 to thank you for all you've done this year!

Country Reports A reminder that country report notes will be due on 4/13. Students organized their work in a country report folder so that they it can be easily transferred to a rough draft. We also discussed the importance of not plagiarizing, so students have been writing short facts rather than full sentences on their notes page. This way they are forced to use their own words when they get to the writing stage. I will be looking for a full page of notes in each section and a list of resources on the bibliography page on 4/13. Remember that the rough draft is due on 4/27 and the final report on May 4. Oral presentations will be the following week: May 7, 8, 10, and 11.

Our class made huge strides in our rehearsals last week for The Odyssey. Our performances are scheduled for April 19th at 10:30am & 7pm. We will be rehearsing at school from 10-12 each day of the week. An information sheet about our play was sent home on March 16th. We continue to welcome any and all help that is offered. Please send in any items you may have at home or could purchase for the class. If you have any theatrical talents or expertise, please contact me if you would like to contribute to this exciting performance.

Since we are in the final weeks of rehearsals, and testing will be coming up shortly, students will not have another literature circle until May. However, we will continue to have spelling this week. CST testing for 6th graders will be on 4/23, 4/24, 4/26, and 4/27. We will test from 10:30-12:10 on each of those days. Please help to make sure your student is present on those days to avoid being pulled out for make-ups.

Finally, the Latin Dinner is scheduled for 4/27 this year. A menu was sent home last week. Tickets are available for purchase before and after school. Each grade level was asked to donate items to the dinner, and 6th grade has volunteered to donate 500 sturdy plates. Please send in any plate donations to the classroom so that they may be used at the dinner. Thank You!

Ms. Boles
